Fairy Tales: ancient orgins and roles in animation
Proppian: The morphology of the folktale

Fairy Tales; 'A wonder tale involving marvellous elements and occurrences though not necessarily  about fairies'.

Fairy Tales come to definitive conclusion an or resolution' [warner, 1994]

Fairy Tales clearly shows the good and the bad, at the end of the story, justice is always severed.  The stories are about 'every man'/ 'every women'. Many folktales are 100-1000 years old, with no exact origin.
'marchen'- Popular fairytales with no exact origin
'kunstmarchen'- artistic fairy tales produced in 19th century, for example the little mermaid 1837.

Epic formulars in folktales [Axel, olrin, 1908]
-The law of threes
- The law of repition
- The law of contrast-  contrast against hero
- The law of twins- two people can appear in the same role, and should be similar in nature.
-The law of patterning- Situations and vents are told and re-told in 'as similar manner as possible'

Morphology of the folktale vladmir propp

Fairy tales tend to be linear in sequence.

-Fairy tale types;
-Animal
- fantastical story
- Stories of everyday life
- The appearance of a dragon
Many stories belong to more than one category 19th centuary style of Russian columison/

Propp stated 4 fundamentals;
1. Funcutions of characters serve on stable, constant elements in a tale, independent of how and whom they are fulfilled.
All fairy tales are one type in regard of their structure.

type of heros;

Seeker hero- Heros helps the victim
Victim hero- hero is the victim, the plot follows victim.

The villain;
-Appears twice, 'first he makes a sudden appearance from outside (flies to the scene, sneaks up on some on)
- The second appearance is a person who has been sought out

The Princess;
Appears twice, the 1st time she is introduced as a personage, the second time she is sought out.

The donor; Is encountered accidently, provides hero with a magical help.

The false hero;
Assumes the role of the  hero but is unable to complete the heros task.

The dispatcher; Sends the hero away for some reason, therefore often plays a pivotal role in inciting the action, similar to voglers 'herald' archetype.

Tales begin with an 'intimal situation' followed by an 31 functions.
The dispatcher, hero, the false hero as well as the princess ae introduced to the into the initial situation.
'spheres of action'
